That’s a wrap! 2018…

Thank you!

It has been an amazing year for both York Pi Jam and York Raspberry Jam. And at the age of 15, running the Jam’s has been truly incredible for me.

This year, combined, we have had 7 Raspberry Jam’s, 8 including our Beginners Course To Scratch.

March Jam

Let’s rewind to March 2018, where York Pi Jam’s begins. After a whole year of planning, believe it or not, it finally took place on the 24th of March 2018 at Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy in Strensall, York. Over the 2 hours our Jam ran, we saw…

53 amazing people

enter the hall, including people from our local area (York), Scarborough and even as far as Edinburgh!

And from there, York Pi Jam teamed up with Anne from York Raspberry Jam (an already ongoing event in York), to create amazing events teaching digital making activities to children and adults in York.

Beginners Course To Scratch

In October, we got asked by Tang Hall Acomb Explore to run a Beginners Course For Scratch.

We trailed the workshop out back in September, and we then ran 4 amazing workshops for children at their Fun Palace, along side with many great workshops from other organisations.

Keep an eye out for 2019’s Fun Palace!

November Jam

In November, York Pi Jam was asked by York Raspberry Jam to organise the Jam for them as they were going away. We ran an Astro Pi workshop where 3 amazing teams sent their code to space. This code will be run on the International Space Station in 2019. We can’t wait to share the location and times their code was ran, so keep an eye out near May 2019 on our blog.

December Jam

Finally, in December, York Pi Jam planned a December Jam where we did some coding with our very own Jam HAT and the Sense HAT. We also coded with a choice of tea, coffee or a hot chocolate and we had some very special branded Mince Pies.

Finalists of the Best Event category at the Minster FM Listener Choice Awards 2018.

We also were finalists in the Best Event category at the Minster FM Listener Choice Awards 2018, which was an absolute privilege considering it was our first year of running Jam’s. Thanks to everyone who voted for us!

Next Year:

We have already planned all of next years Jam’s. They will be during January, March, May, July, September and November. Also keep an eye out for our workshops. You can check out our programme for all of next years events.

And all that is left to say is have a Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year and we hope to see you in 2019. Thank you, your attendance means a lot!
